This weekend brought some scary news. Joel's seven year-old niece Cami is in the ICU of Salt Lake's Primary Children's Hospital. Cami was born with HLHS, a rare congenital heart disease that leaves her with two chambers, instead of the traditional four. She had 3 open-heart surgeries by the time she was 4, but has been doing very well until this week.
Early last week she came down with croup, which led quickly to pneumonia and the flu. Friday night she stopped breathing, was rushed to the hospital, only to stop breathing again. She was life-flighted on Saturday to Primary Children's, and is in stable, but critical condition at the ICU. She has an arrhythmia in her heart right now, so they're trying to get that under control.
We've spent most of the weekend close to the phone, waiting for each update. The good news is that Cami's a fighter (she'll fight on anything - her mom putting her shoes on, zipping up her coat on snowy days ... anything). She's been in hospitals before, and we know if anyone can come through it, it's Cami. But still, if you could pray for her and her family, we know they could use the support right now.

Here's the most recent update as of Monday:
Mom had a chance to talk with Chris and there are still some significant concerns with Cami’s situation. She has edema in her lungs that is the result of her heart overworking. The medicine given to reduce the heart flutter caused her heart to slow to much so they are taking her off that medication. The doctors are trying to figure out how to stop the flutter. Her situation is not life threatening but it is serious. Please continue to keep Cami, Chris and Jordan in your prayers. They are still planning on taking her off the ventilator later today, so that is good.
Amelia! First, I'm so sorry to hear about Joel's niece. I hope she makes a full recovery.
